Meet Harnaam Kaur, A 23-year-old girl who was teased mercilessly about her excessive facial hair which even drove her into self-harm, has embraced her condition and now has a full beard. Harnaam Kaur has polycystic ovary syndrome which causes thick hair growth, despite her lengthy attempts to shave, wax and bleach it.
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a condition in which a woman has an imbalance of a female sex hormones. This usually leads to menstrual cycle changes, cysts in the ovaries, trouble getting pregnant, and other health changes which in Harnaam’s case, makes her grow excessive facial hair.
Harnaam’s who is currently a primary school teaching assistant has grown passed the teasing and the contempt and is now so confident and content with her appearance, she has even been baptized as a Sikh – a religion where it is forbidden to cut body hair.
I would never ever go back now and remove my facial hair because it’s the way God made me and I’m happy with the way I am. I feel more feminine, more sexy and I think I look it too. I’ve learned to love myself for who I am nothing can shake me now.
